Last week in our Watershed Spotlight we gave you an insight into the Print division of our business, focusing on our Printed Label offerings.
This week is another change of topic and today we are shining the spotlight on a different part of our business. We are discussing a process we offer on our Printed Films; Toll Lamination.
We are pioneers in the manufacture and supply of high quality, high definition printed flexible Films. We have extensive experience in high barrier, long shelf life laminated Films for direct packing applications, mainly for form-fill-seal applications within the Bakery/Cereal Bar marketplace. This is predominantly oPP//oPP lamination, with a combination of matte, gloss, silver or white, as required.
Looking to expand our business into different markets, in 2017, we purchased our first Duplex solventless high-speed Laminator. This was another investment in the latest technology for Watershed which would enable us to offer new solutions at affordable costs to our customers. Our Laminator was the first in the world of this series and is the World Leader in Speed and Web Control. It is custom built to allow ultra-tight window lamination.
What is Toll Lamination?
Watershed offers a Toll Lamination service on-site at our Leeds headquarters, providing finished laminated reels from your issued materials.
We have capabilities to offer higher barrier films, combining polyester, polyethylene, polypropylene, and nylon as Laminates due to the investment of our high-speed Laminator which was the first in the world of its series. Firstly, we slit your desired material choice down to size then run the material through our high-speed Laminator. Once the Film has ran through our Laminator, this process is called Toll Lamination or Offline Lamination.
We are now able to offer more complex applications and requirements, and support customers who are looking for improved shelf-life. Our Laminator also uses a more greenhouse-friendly solvent-less adhesive system which prevents VOC emissions to the atmosphere compared to solvent-based adhesives.
What kind of Flexible Packaging material can Watershed Packaging Laminate?
We can laminate materials from 10mic to 150mic, with widths from 350mm to 1350mm. We are processing orders from 5,000m to over 200,000m.
We have a range of standard adhesive Sleeves in stock, which are free to use. Custom widths and patterns can be made to order.
Markets & Materials we currently supply:
OPP//OPP clear/white/metallised – suitable for Cereal Bar/Bakery, Confectionery, Popcorn bags
PET//PE for high barrier shelf life improvements – suitable for Pet Foods bags or Wet Wipes
OPP//CPP – suitable for Confectionery for dusty products and improve sealing capabilities
OPP//PE – suitable within the Dried Nut market to improve seal capabilities
oPA//PE – suitable for Meat lidding, Cheese and Dairy applications
Which industry would mainly use the process of Toll Lamination for their Packaging?
Food markets such as the Cheese, Sausage, Bread and Croissants are typical users of Toll Lamination for their outer packaging.
This process ensures the food is sealed securely within the packaging so it cannot be contaminated once packaged and improves the shelf life of your product.
This week’s blog post is just a small snippet of what Watershed Packaging can offer to our customers who are looking at using the Toll Lamination process for their Packaging. We offer such a variety of products and we hope the Watershed Spotlight can help tell the world who we are and what we do.
We hope you enjoyed this weekly spotlight on our Toll Lamination process! Keep a lookout for our next Watershed spotlight coming to you next week!
Have a good weekend.
